The name NDAEGBOMEI is a word taken from one of the tribal languages (Mende) in the Mano River countries of West Africa (Sierra Leone, Liberia & Guinea) – and it means ‘FAMILY HELP’
Between 2001 – 2010, Queensland – Australia received appreciable number of migrants with the humanitarian visa and majority were on family reunion. To support these families with their relatives smooth resettlement, we formed this group to visit families with new arrivals and to give assistance for their speedy integration into the Australian society.
Quickly, we saw the need of working as a closed community and started holding meetings rotationally in homes to know each other better. We quickly saw the benefits of these meeting, as it addresses: social isolation among members, the benefit of inculcating our cultures to our children, and improvements to our domestic and cultural life styles.
Today, the organisation has grown beyond incorporating only community members and new migrants to a fully registered Not-For-Profit Organisation that incorporates people from diverse nationalities and cultural backgrounds. We embark on philanthropic activities for both our members and the community
